Criticisms greet Aregbesola’s ‘philosophical’ tweet

A tweet by the Governor of the State of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, has taken the flak from Nigerians who seem offended by it.

In the tweet on Aregbesola’s verified Twitter handle, the governor could be seen being driven in what appears to be an air-conditioned SUV, with the windows safely wound up.

He is driving through a poor neighbourhood populated by mud houses in various stages of incompletion.

A hapless, barefooted boy leans against a windowless mud house, and waves back at the governor who flashes the V-sign at him.

Aregbesola waxes philosophical in the tweet, quoting the Russian novelist, short story writer, essayist, journalist and philosopher, Fyodor (Mikhailovich) Dostoyevsky.

“The soul is healed by being with children,” the Dostoyevsky quote says.
