The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the the rerun election in Kano, Mr Anthony Agbizili has dismissed allegations that the police has aided thugs in molesting voters to favor the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC. He stated this at the police headquarters in Kano Saturday evening when he briefly addressed newsmen.
Earlier in the morning the PDP has alleged the police abetting political thugs in disenfranchising the electorate by disallowing them to cast their votes.
“If thugs have taken over any polling units, INEC will not feel comfortable to bring out their materials and conduct voting process. Voters that went to vote, is a secret ballot so we don’t know which party they are voting for. Result has not come and police is never involved in the conduct of election but in providing security for the smooth conduct of election. To accuse the police, I say is unfair” the DIG stated.
DIG Agbizili was deployed to the state to take charge of the supplementary election and the People Democratic Party, PDP is suspicious over the role played by the police in the election.
He also dismissed as baseless rumour that some people have been killed in some local government areas where the election is taking place even as he announced the arrest of ten people for trying to disrupt the process.
“We have made arrests in the morning where we arrested about ten people for trying to disrupt the process of election” he stated.
